As Hope for HIE continues to expand its reach and impact across the global HIE community, we are able to expand the types of roles in our organization to meet mission objectives, and sustain the work. We are especially excited to expand internship opportunities.
Kimberly joins us from the University of Kentucky, where she is pursuing her Master of Social Work degree and completing three practicum semesters with Hope for HIE through August 2026, under the direction of Jennifer Schaefer, CAPSW, Hope for HIE's social worker.
Kimberly has been part of the Hope for HIE community since 2013, walking alongside families through her daughter Natalie’s HIE journey. Her connection to the community and deep empathy for families make her an incredible addition to our team as we continue to expand our programs and resources for families around the world.
Kimberly’s passion for social work centers on supporting children and families navigating complex medical journeys—particularly in pediatric palliative care, hospice, and grief and bereavement support. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from Purdue University and previously worked as a Braille transcriber, paraprofessional, and preschool teacher in inclusive early childhood classrooms.
Outside of her work with Hope for HIE, Kimberly gives her time to a local pediatric palliative care and hospice organization, volunteers with Camp Erin, is active in her local PFLAG chapter, and supports her son’s school community.
We are also excited to announce that Allison Moise has taken on a new title as Program Coordinator. In this expanded role, Allison leads the Peer Support Mentorship Program, serves as the Clinical Trials Peer Support Lead in organizational research partnerships, and coordinates our growing network of dedicated volunteers.
Allison’s leadership and compassionate coordination continue to strengthen the heart of Hope for HIE—building meaningful connections, fostering empathy, and empowering families through every step of their HIE journey. She has represented the organization in several conferences in 2025, spoken at epilepsy conferences, and was in the inaugural cohort of the Epilepsy Foundation's Research Ambassador program.
