Community Trust & Affiliation Policy

Community Trust & Affiliation Policy

Hope for HIE is deeply committed to protecting the trust, privacy, clarity, and safety of our community in alignment with our mission, vision and values.

Our programs, resources, platforms, relationships, and reputation have been built over many years through the contributions of families, volunteers, clinicians, researchers, donors, staff, and partners. We take seriously our responsibility to steward that trust well to move our mission forward, and benefit the global HIE community.

We regularly review partnerships with organizations and individuals, as well as resource sharing to improve the support we provide to the global HIE community. We welcome your interest by filling out the partnership interest form.

Affiliation and Endorsement

Hope for HIE does not permit individuals, organizations, businesses, fundraisers, social media accounts, websites, support groups, programs, services, or other independently operated initiatives to imply affiliation, endorsement, sponsorship, partnership, approval, or oversight by Hope for HIE without prior written authorization that can be reqeuested by submitting the partnership request form.

A meeting, donated resource, professional review, or inclusion in a Hope for HIE resource list does not constitute Hope for HIE approval, clinical review, partnership, or endorsement. Such a connection may not be described as one without prior written authorization.

Hope for HIE maintains a strict non-affiliation policy regarding birth injury law firms, attorneys, and legal service providers.

Participation in Hope for HIE programs, groups, events, fundraising campaigns, volunteer opportunities, or community spaces does not create an organizational affiliation or endorsement.

We welcome support, advocacy, and other nonprofit organizations to review our Partnering with Hope for HIE resource, and consider submitting a partnership request.

Sharing Hope for HIE Resources

We welcome appropriate sharing of publicly available Hope for HIE resources for education, awareness, and support.

When sharing our content:

  • Hope for HIE should be clearly credited as the source.
  • Whenever possible, users should link to the original Hope for HIE resource.
  • Content should not be altered.
  • Hope for HIE content may not be used in a way that suggests affiliation, endorsement, partnership, sponsorship, or approval of another person, organization, program, platform, product, or service unless previously approved.
  • Hope for HIE content, branding, or resources may not be monetized or incorporated into independently operated programs or services without permission.
  • Hope for HIE's intellectual property includes all resources built and available across Hope for HIE's website, social channels, and resource libraries unless otherwise denoted. It also includes the Hope for HIE logo and word mark, both of which are internationally trademarked and subject to intellectual property rights and laws.
Community Access

Hope for HIE community spaces exist to provide support, education, connection, advocacy, and mission-aligned opportunities.

Our groups, social platforms, events, email lists, professional relationships, and other community connections may not be used to:

  • Recruit members for outside groups, programs, platforms, services, studies, events, or initiatives without approval.
  • Promote personal businesses, services, products, fundraisers, or independently operated projects.
  • Build mailing lists, audiences, client bases, professional networks, or fundraising lists.
  • Use access obtained through Hope for HIE’s community spaces, programs, volunteer activities, or professional relationships to solicit families, clinicians, researchers, donors, sponsors, volunteers, staff, or partners for outside purposes
  • Use access to the Hope for HIE community to establish credibility or imply organizational support for an outside initiative.

Requests involving research recruitment, surveys, clinical studies, or other community-facing projects must follow Hope for HIE’s established review and partnership processes.

Independent Initiatives

We recognize that lived experience often inspires people to create new resources, projects, organizations, support groups, platforms, or advocacy efforts.

Hope for HIE does not provide promotion, endorsement, introductions, community access, recruitment support, or platform-building assistance for independently operated initiatives unless there is a formally reviewed and approved collaboration.

Requests must go through Hope for HIE’s published review process. Repeatedly approaching staff, volunteers, or advisory board members to obtain access or assistance after a request has been declined does not bypass that process.

Individuals who operate independent initiatives are still welcome to participate in Hope for HIE as community members, provided their participation follows the same community standards that apply to everyone and is not used to promote or advance outside work as that constitutes a conflict of interest.

We welcome individuals to submit a partnership request.

Volunteering and Involvement

We welcome individuals who want to contribute to Hope for HIE through our established volunteer, peer support, advocacy, storytelling, research engagement, fundraising, and community programs. You can find open volunteer roles on our Volunteer Hub.

Volunteer Hub

Volunteering with Hope for HIE does not authorize an individual to represent Hope for HIE outside the scope of their approved role or to use Hope for HIE relationships, platforms, or resources for an independently operated initiative.

Fundraising and Solicitation

Personal fundraising, commercial promotion, and solicitation within Hope for HIE community spaces are governed by our community and non-solicitation policies.

Supporting or fundraising for Hope for HIE does not create special access, endorsement, promotional opportunities, or exceptions to organizational policies.

Please use this form as the central point of contact for resource and partnership requests.

These standards exist for one reason: to protect the people who trust Hope for HIE and to ensure that families, clinicians, researchers, donors, and partners can clearly understand what is—and is not—part of Hope for HIE.

Community trust is something we build together, and something we have a shared responsibility to protect.
