Hope for HIE is excited to announce the addition of Samia Tasmim to the organization as Research Associate. Samia brings an extensive background in research, medical writing, and science communication to the role. She will be supporting key organizational priorities including the PCORI Convening Award, research partnerships, and the HIE Registry.

She will also help advance Hope for HIE's efforts to synthesize and communicate clinical evidence, strengthen relationships with research partners, and move the needle on initiatives that improve outcomes for children and families impacted by HIE.

"Expanding our staff is a direct result of the exciting and rapidly evolving state of HIE research. We are thrilled to welcome Samia to the team working with Maggie Jalowsky, our Medical Advisory Board and network of partners. Her depth of experience in research and medical writing, combined with her passion for translating complex science into meaningful information, makes her an incredible asset as we continue to deepen our impact for the HIE community," stated Betsy Pilon, Executive Director.

Samia is an Independent Research Consultant, most recently partnering with MedNavigate LLC.

She previously served as a Senior Medical Writer at BGB Group, a Medical Writer at Anderson DDB Health and Lifestyle, and a Research Analyst at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH). She holds a Master of Science from the Institute of Medical Science at the University of Toronto and is the author of over 10 peer-reviewed publications. Samia is also a recipient of the 2025 AWIS Chicago Scholarship and Career Re-Entry Award from the Association for Women in Science.
